Everton has confirmed the appointment of former Burnley boss Sean Dyche on a two-and-a-half-year contract. As Frank Lampard’s replacement, Dyche was selected by the Everton board after discussions with former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa. Since he acquired control of the team over seven years ago, Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri has employed seven permanent managers, including Dyche.
“Being an appointed manager of Everton is an honor. My team and I are prepared and excited to assist in getting this fantastic club back on track,” Sean Dyche said after being confirmed as the new Everton manager. “I am aware of the devoted Everton supporters and how important this club is to them. We are prepared to get to work and to provide for their needs. That begins with exertion, sweat on the shirt, and returning to some of the core values that Everton Football Club has long stood for.”
“We wish to restore a positive mood. We need everyone to be on the same page, the support of the fans, and togetherness. Starting with us as players and staff,” he added. “Our goal is to field a squad that works hard, battles valiantly, and proudly wears the badge. Due to their fervor, the relationship with the supporters can then develop extremely rapidly. This team possesses talent. However, we must make them shine. I and my team are responsible for that.”
A 2-0 loss to fellow strugglers West Ham on January 21 kept Lampard’s team in last place with 15 points after 20 games, two points outside the safety zone. The Merseyside team has been struggling under the former England international; their most recent league victory came in a 3-0 home victory over Crystal Palace in October. Lampard oversaw Chelsea from 2019–2021 and Derby County in the second division in 2018–19 before being hired by Everton in January 2022, but Dyche will now be faced with stopping the decline toward the Championship.
