Croatia joined Wales at the top of Group D in Euro 2024 qualifying with a 2-0 win in Turkey, thanks to two first-half goals from Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic. After being thwarted to a 1-1 draw by Robert Page’s side in Split last week, the World Cup bronze medalists won again in Bursa. Croatia’s goals came from an unexpected source: Kovacic, who had only scored three times for Croatia in his previous 91 games.
Georgia and Norway drew 1-1 in Tbilisi in Euro 2024 qualifying, leaving Scotland in command of Group A. Steve Clarke’s side defeated Spain at Hampden Park thanks to a Scott McTominay double, putting Scotland three points clear at the top of the group, and five ahead of Norway after two games. Alexander Sorloth’s superb start gave Stale Solbakken’s team the lead against Georgia, but it was canceled out by Georges Mikautadze at the hour mark.
Switzerland preserved their perfect record in Group I with a 3-0 win over Israel at Lancy, thanks to goals from Ruben Vargas, Zeki Amdouni, and Silvan Widmer. In Group I, early goals from Nicolae Stancui and Andrei Burca set up Romania for a 2-1 win over Belarus in Bucharest, but the visitors fought back and cut the score to 2-1 four minutes from time through Vladislav Morozov. Andorra sits atop the table, with Albert Rosas his country’s hero after salvaging a rare point for the principality in a 1-1 draw in Kosovo, just after Edon Zhegrova gave the hosts a 59th-minute lead.
Belgium battled to a 3-2 friendly win in Germany, giving new manager Domenico Tedesco two wins in two matches and putting pressure on the troubled Euro 2024 hosts. Both teams were desperate to rebound after their shock group-stage World Cup elimination in December, but it was Belgium who came out on top in Cologne, claiming their first victory against Germany since 1954. Belgium attacked at will in the first half, taking the lead with a brilliant five-pass move from deep in their own half as Yannick Carrasco rifled home in the sixth minute, unmarked and with plenty of space on the left.
