Chelsea was interested in signing Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah during the summer transfer window.
According to Sport Bild of Germany, the Egyptian international is one of two goals for the Blues, alongside Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.
The two have been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks. Many would-be surprised by Thomas Tuchel’s ‘transfer decision’ to include Salah on his shortlist.
After all, the 28-year-old plays for a rival side, and it’s hard to imagine Liverpool doing business with a possible Premier League title contender next season.
Salah has been one of the most prolific goal scorers in the Premier League since his return to England in the summer of 2019. He is just seven goals away from reaching 100 Premier League goals for Liverpool.
As a result, it’s fair to conclude he accomplished his goal of proving Chelsea wrong.
Mohamed Salah Words:
In 2018, he said, “I knew from the first day that I wanted to do something different, something extraordinary. I was here with Chelsea but didn’t get my chance, so I came back. Deciding to show off my football skills to everyone. I didn’t take part in the game. Just looking at the numbers, you can see what I’m talking about. I didn’t get my chance, but when I did, you can see how I proved those people wrong.”
Salah’s words indicate that, rather than putting himself in the shop window for a possible return, he has used his Chelsea experience as inspiration to get to the next level.
Meanwhile, Tuchel believes Timo Werner will strengthen next season regardless of new additions.
“There isn’t a single boss who won’t appoint a 20-goal striker to his team. If you can promise it, I can’t get enough of them” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“Chelsea, on the other hand, purchased Timo Werner, a striker who averages 20/30 goals per season. For the first time in his career, he is seeing some difficulties. I’ve known him since he was 17 years old. In youth football, he scored last year. He played under-18 when he was 16, under-19 when he was 17, and he never stopped scoring. It will take some time. It’s not like a puzzle where you locate one item and then go out and find the same match; it’s more complex, which is why there’s no hurry or panic.”
