Man City will take on Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday. City is in sensational form, scoring goals for fun and racking up the victories, but they’ll need to be at their best to see off a Bayern side who back themselves up against anybody and recently hired Thomas Tuchel, the man who derailed their Champions League dream just two years ago.
Man City predicted lineup vs Bayern Munich (3-2-4-1)
GK: Ederson – During his time with Benfica, the custodian faced Bayern twice, allowing three goals in the 2015/16 quarter-final.
CB: Manuel Akanji – Although he hasn’t been at his best recently, Akanji still has Guardiola’s trust.
CB: Ruben Dias – Dias, another former Benfica player, faced Bayern in 2018/19 and conceded seven goals in two group games.
CB: Nathan Ake – If City is to win, Ake, who has been one of the Premier League’s finest players this season, will need to put in a monster effort.
DM: Rodri – City’s anchorman will be challenged to keep up with Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala.
DM: John Stones – In expectation of a heated midfield fight, the defensive-minded Stones may get the nod here.
RM: Bernardo Silva – Guardiola may try to change things up with Silva after Riyad Mahrez struggled against Southampton.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – Gundogan is well-versed with Bayern due to his time in Germany. He’s critical to City’s style of play and will have to perform once more here.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – De Bruyne, perhaps Europe’s best creative, will put his trust in himself to find a way past a Bayern defense that hasn’t always inspired confidence.
LM: Jack Grealish – This season, Grealish is playing some of the finest football of his career, having finally worked out how to play under Guardiola.
ST: Erling Haaland – Haaland may have signed Bayern Munich instead of Manchester City last summer. Now he’ll be able to see if he made the right decision.
