Manchester United has been drawn against Charlton from League One in the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup. Charlton, the only non-Premier League team still in the Carabao Cup, advances to the fifth round against Manchester United after defeating Premier League Brighton at home on penalties. The Addicks are currently 57 places below United, who are currently in first place after beating Championship Burnley 2-0 at home on Wednesday night. Eight victories Manchester City’s stunning 3-2 victory over league champion Liverpool at home earned them a trip to Southampton in the round of eight. Saints, who eliminated League One Lincoln in the fourth round, will try to prevent City from winning their eighth Carabao Cup in the past ten years.
Newcastle continues its quest for its first domestic trophy since 1955 when it hosts Leicester in the quarterfinals. While the Foxes easily defeated League One team MK Dons in the fourth round, Eddie Howe’s team defeated Bournemouth at St. James’ Park. Wolves and Nottingham Forest, both of which are in the Premier League relegation zone, will play each other in the other last-eight match at the City Ground. In the fourth round, both teams defeated EFL opposition, with Wolves defeating League Two Gillingham at Molineux and Forest winning at Championship Blackburn.
