RB Leipzig wants to sign a permanent contract with Manchester City defender Angelino but its future can depend on how the coronavirus pandemic affects football finances.
The Spaniard joined Leipzig on loan in January in a contract that includes a €30 m (£25 m) buy option.
But the Bundesliga club, which also has on-loan Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu and Roma forward Patrik Schick, is hoping to open negotiations to get him around half the cost of the initial agreement.
The Covid-19 pandemic is set to have a serious impact on players’ valuations, with Angelino likely to be available for less despite making a big impression in Germany during his short period.
Angelino has played five matches for the Bundesliga and helped Julian Nagelsmann ‘s side to the Champions League quarter-finals.
It is also understood that he surprised coaches from the first team with how quickly he settled into the squad and adapted to learn new tactics.
The 23-year-old was back straight into the starting line-up for the draw with Freiburg on Saturday as German football resumed and matches were staged without supporters present. And he suggested he would be open to a permanent move, praising the impact of the highly-rated Nagelsmann coach from Leipzig.
“They gave me this opportunity in January and I wanted to go somewhere to play and enjoy football again and thanks to this club I have done it so I am very grateful. I want to play, I ‘m going to be stable soon hopefully. At the moment, I’m very happy and I’m trying to enjoy my full time, we ‘re going to see,” he told Eurosport when asked where his future lies.
But the defender did not completely rule out having a future at the Etihad Stadium despite failing to force his way into the side of Pep Guardiola during a difficult first half of the season regularly.
