Series A stadium could be set to re-open at 25 percent capacity before the finish of the 2019-20 season, under plans considered by Gabriele Gravina, leader of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
Since early March, when the authorities initially requested games to be played behind closed doors before suspending the league altogether due to the coronavirus pandemic, Italian football fans were unable to watch matches face to face.
Matches were allowed to continue last month, again behind closed doors and under severe sanitation controls, however, without a moment’s delay, the authorities are quick to get supporters back in.
For different companies and organizations opening re-opening for social distancing steps in place, Series A would have to go with the same pattern if stadiums are to be re-opened.
This would probably mean grounds this capacity well underneath their full capacity to allow adequate social space in the stands and rivalries.
Gravina says he has worked intimately with the Scientific Technical Committee (CTS) to concoct a proposal that could pave the way for fans in the blink of an eye to coming back to matches.
When asked whether supporters could return before August, Gravina told Avvenire: “We ‘re working with the goal that fans can return to watching football very close again. We ‘re taking a shot at percentages. As of today, we ‘re talking of 25 percent. We will be ready to administer this procedure once the CTS allows us to let fans back into the stadiums.”
Since the restart, most Serie A clubs have finished three rounds of games with Atalanta versus Napoli and Udinese ‘s excursion to Roma completing game week 29 on Thursday evening.
The authorities at that point plan to wrap up the remaining 90 matches inside 31 days, with the Champions League and the Europa League, set to be finished up in August.
Since the restart, Juventus has won all three of their Serie A matches to stay on course for a ninth consecutive Scudetto. At Genoa on Tuesday, Maurizio Sarri’s side won 3-1 to maintain their important lead over Lazio, who beat Torino 2-1 the same night.
