Tottenham defender Danny Rose will spend the remainder of the Premier League season with Newcastle after agreeing to broaden his loan contract, Steve Bruce has announced.
In January, after Jose Mourinho ‘s arrival, the Englishman marked an initial half-year loan deal with Newcastle after losing his place in the Tottenham squad.
The 29-year-old eventually made six appearances for the Magpies before the break that was implemented due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.
The defender’s contract was expected to terminate with the season originally expected to end in May, however, Bruce has now stated that the left-back has chosen to expand his stay.
Rose is one of six Newcastle players who agreed to an expansion along with individual loans from Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro, while Andy Carroll, Matty Longstaff, and Javier Manquillo – whose contracts were expected to terminate – broadened their stay as well.
Bruce told media via video interface in his pre-match question and answer session ahead of their restart against Sheffield United that “For the last couple of weeks we’ve had progressing conversations with the greater part of them now. We are currently in another condition of what we are doing; there has, obviously, been a great deal of conversation with the Premier League and what we will do with out-of-contract players. What they have done is offer an expansion until the finish of the season and all our lads, including the loan players and the out-of-contract players, have verbally chosen and agreed-to go on and play until the finish of the season, which is certain.”
At 35 points in the table, Newcastle presently sits fourteenth and invites Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United to St. James’ Park as they continue their campaign.
The Magpies are eight points off the relegation zone and are certainly safe, yet without a moment’s delay, Bruce will want to move toward the 40-point mark.
